Consists on reusing all the water in our industrial processes to irrigate the 112 hectares of woods and crops surrounding our facilities. Water is treated in order to keep our environmental impact to a minimum. Our land is also grazed by herds of sheep and cows, which help clear our undergrowth and thus reduce the risk of fire.

We want a sustainable future, which is why - for many years - we have been using our waters responsibly, with a positive impact on our natural environment.
On this year, we have modified the treatment plant of our slaughterhouse to generate a much cleaner and more environmentally friendly effluent, an improvement in the quality of the water that will allow us to continue studying its possible reuse.
Matadero Frigorífico Avinyó employed DepurWater to carry out monthly checks on its waste water discharge and ensure its treatment was working effectively.
We designed and implemented our first Irrigation Plan to regulate irrigation and fertilisation and set out maximum irrigation times for each area of forest and crops. In 2009 we launched a groundwater analysis project with the University of Vic to ensure that our irrigation and fertilisation activity had no detrimental effect on water quality.
We installed a 25,000 m³ accumulation pond at the end of our green waste water treatment process, thus exposing the waste water to natural treatment for longer so that we can then reuse it for irrigation and fertilisation.
We expanded and improved our waste water treatment plant at Matadero Frigorífico Avinyó. We adapted the quality of its discharge and refitted the plant to ensure its long-term feasibility.
We installed a heat-recovery system at our subproducts plant to reuse the heat generated by digestion processes in order to heat water and cut down on our gas consumption.
We were pioneers in reusing treated waste water to irrigate and fertilise the 148 hectares of woods and fields around our premises, under the careful supervision of the Catalan Water Agency and the Catalan Government.
